I have been growing out my hair for a while now. I have always had a military haircut. Very short on the sides and short on top. More of a habit from the 9 years of military and not having to fuss with anything other than long hair.
I decided to grow my hair out a few months ago, and I have been letting the top grow. My barber (ok, hairstylist) has been doing a great job of keeping it workable for me and keeping the sides short still.
Here is my hair brushed down in the front, to show the length. It doesn’t look that long, although this is the longest I think I have EVER let me hair grow.

So I went through the day, no gel, wearing a hat. Been wearing a hat more while letting this mop grow.
Anastasia asked if she could play with my hair tonight. I told her sure. She got the brush and gel and went to work.
Here is the outcome:

So, as I sit, my hair looks like an Elvis, skater, faux mohawk, something. All cause Anastasia decided to have fun with my head tonight… :D
Last night my daughter got her hair cut. She looks adorable. You can see the pictures by clicking here. She loved it from the second it was done, she was playing with it, flipping her head from side to side and running her fingers through it all with the constant ‘I love my hair’ smile.
This morning she comes downstairs from taking her shower and getting dressed with her hair up in a ponytail that laid on top of her head. Basically so the front was pulled to the back. I asked her why she did that and told her she should let her hair down because it looks beautiful and I was sure everyone would love it. She took her hair down and we ate breakfast and made her lunch.
On the way to the bus stop, as we walked, she kept trying to walk behind me instead of the normal on the side of me. When we got to the bus stop she stood behind me and would not say hi to anyone nor let anyone see her new short hairstyle.
I asked her to come out from behind me and that was when I noticed she was very worried about what everyone would say about the drastic change to her hair. I told her she looked beautiful and that no matter what anyone says about her hair, if she loves, likes or hates it, that’s all that needs to matter. Not the kids that want to be mean or just want to tell her an opinion even if they don’t really have one.
I am happy to say either some or all of that touched home with her and she came out from behind me and she was good to go after that.
Once again, I was able to pull off the miraculous feat of making my daughter believe in the words I say and that is what makes me realize, I must be doing something right.
I am one lucky dad. Because my daughter is 10, that means, I DON’T have to choose hairstyles for her anymore. I still govern the process, although I don’t need to run the process anymore. Now Anastasia picks her own hairstyles.
Even luckier, she had a bright idea to consult her Aunt and they, together, decided on the haircut that would best fit what she wanted and would look great!
I think they did a great job. Check out the pictures:

She just got out of the shower and her hair is still wet, although you can see she got it cut short. Her hair was down to the middle of her back. She got at least six inches cut off.
